300m biophysical products

ImagineS has provided to the Copernicus Global Land Service the processing chain able to generate the LAI, FAPAR and the FCover from the 300m PROBA-V data. HYGEOS has developed the software based upon an algorithm defined by INRA. The main requirement was to provide near real time estimates. This forces to perform short term projection of the variable dynamics. The retrieval methodology starts from the daily PROBA-V S1 top of the atmosphere reflectance products which are first transformed into instantaneous estimates of LAI, FAPAR, FCover using neural networks. Then, smoothing and gap filling is achieved over a compositing temporal window that may be dissymetric as in the case of the near-real time situation or at the beginning of the time series. Details are given in the ATBD. The final products consist on Collection300m NRT and consolidated values of LAI, FAPAR and FCover, updated every 10 days. They are disseminated by the Copernicus Global Land Service, associated with a Product User Manual.

EOLAB has performed a quality assessment analysis in the context of the Copernicus Global Land Service according to the CEOS LPV guidelines. In particular, the retreived LAI, FAPAR, FCover have been compared with ground measurements collected during the ImagineS field campaigns. The results show that the NRT estimates have to be considered with caution while the consolidated estimates display reliable distributions of values per biome type, reliable temporal variations over reference sites and an accuracy close to the GCOS requirements.
